As a service to the community, Peoples Health provides operational support and funding to the Gretna Senior and Wellness Center.
Peoples Health and the Jefferson Council on Aging (JCOA) have partnered to provide programming initiatives at three senior centers in Jefferson Parish — the Gretna Senior and Wellness Center, the Thomas Laughlin Senior Center (Pink House) and the Metairie Senior Center. Programs include music therapy, tai chi and other classes tailored to the needs of seniors.
JCOA is a nonprofit corporation organized under Louisiana Statute LA R.S. 46:1601 and 46:931. The Internal Revenue Service determined in 1970 that JCOA is a nonprofit organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code. The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors. JCOA is the designated area agency on aging for Jefferson Parish. It is responsible for planning, organizing and offering a comprehensive set of programs and services for improving the quality of life of Jefferson Parish’s 60-year-old+ seniors. JCOA’s mission is “to assist the senior citizens of Jefferson Parish to age with dignity and independence in the place and manner of their choice.”
